Review an automatic status suggestion

Approve or dismiss the moves ABACare suggests from session data, such as advancing a target to maintenance or regressing it after a failed probe.

Applies toBCBAOrg Owner

After each completed session, ABACare checks every target's data against its criteria. Depending on the target's settings, it can suggest a move instead of making it: advance a generalization target to maintenance, advance a maintenance target to mastered, or move a target back when its performance drops. You decide. Approving makes the move; dismissing leaves the target where it is.

Before you start

  • Suggestions are raised only when a session is Completed, not when it is submitted.
  • Whether a target gets suggestions, automatic moves or neither depends on its settings: see Configure generalization for a target and Configure maintenance for a target. Changing a setting later does not remove a suggestion that is already waiting.
  • BCBAs and org owners can approve or dismiss any suggestion in the clinic, in the web app. Only the learner's BCBA gets the notification.

Find suggestions

A suggestion shows up in several places:

  • The notification bell: a suggestion to advance, or a failed maintenance probe, opens the plan's Goals tab with the target highlighted. A context regression opens the target's page. See Read and act on notifications.
  • Your dashboard, in Needs My Attention under Clinical Decisions: a context regression gets its own row with Accept and Dismiss. Targets that are ready to advance are grouped in one row per learner, such as 2 targets ready to advance, which opens the plan's Goals tab. The rows and their buttons cover only your own learners with an Active plan; an org owner's Needs Attention list has no Accept or Dismiss. See Work the Needs Attention list.
  • The plan's Goals tab: the target shows the tag Suggest: → Maintenance, Probe failed — review or Regression suggested — with the context. The first two open the review window; the context regression tag is only a label.
  • The target's page: Status & transitions shows Pending suggestion with Review, and a context regression shows a badge next to the target's name with Accept and Dismiss.

Mastery of an Active target is not a suggestion. When a target meets its mastery criteria and its automatic mastery is off, its page shows Criteria Met with Change status, and it counts in the targets-ready row. Move it yourself: see Change goal and target status.

Approve or dismiss a move forward

This covers a generalization target ready for maintenance and a maintenance target ready to be mastered.

  1. Select the tag on the Goals tab, or Review under Pending suggestion on the target's page.
  2. The Suggested Transition window shows the target and Criteria met — suggesting advance to the new status.
  3. Select Approve Transition to move the target, or Dismiss to leave it.

The window closes without a message.

Review a failed maintenance probe

When a maintenance probe fails, the target shows Probe failed — review.

  1. Select the tag, or Review on the target's page. The Regression Review window says Maintenance probe failed. Choose a regression destination or dismiss.
  2. Select Regress to Active to teach the target again, Regress to Generalization to test it in its contexts again, or Dismiss to keep it in maintenance.

Review a context regression

In Granular collection, a generalization context can have regression criteria: a floor and a number of sessions. When the learner's results in that context stay worse than the floor for that many sessions in a row, ABACare suggests a move back. The dashboard row names the target, the floor, the number of sessions and the suggested move.

  1. On the dashboard row or next to the target's name, select Accept.
  2. A confirmation names the move. If the contexts are tested in order and this is not the first, it offers to reopen the previous context. Otherwise it offers Return target to Active? All context progress resets; collected records are kept.
  3. Select Confirm, or Cancel to go back.

A message confirms the result: Target returned to Active., or that the context was reopened. If the learner recovered in the meantime, you see Context recovered — no change was made. If the order of the contexts changed, The context order changed — review the updated move. asks you to confirm the new move.

To keep the target where it is, select Dismiss. There is no confirmation.

What happens next

  • An approved move changes the target's status and adds an entry to its status history. Tethers on the target fire as for any status change.
  • Reopening a context keeps the target in generalization. That context becomes current again, its standing restarts, and the status history does not change.
  • A dismissed move forward or failed probe leaves no trace: the next completed session that meets the criteria raises it again. A dismissed context regression shows Suggestion dismissed with the date on the context, and only a new run of low sessions raises it again.
  • Changing the target's status yourself also clears a waiting suggestion. Changing several statuses at once does not.
  • The Goals tab keeps showing the tag after you approve or dismiss until you reload the page.
  • If approving or dismissing fails in the review window, no error shows and the window stays open. Reload the page and try again.
  • The review window and the Goals tab tag show the suggested status in English, whatever the app language.
