Permanently delete a learner
Remove a learner added by mistake, with all their data, for good. Only possible for a learner who has never had a session.
Permanent deletion is for a learner who should never have been in ABACare: a duplicate, a typo you would rather start over, or a child who never began therapy. It removes the learner and everything attached to them, and it cannot be undone. For a learner who paused or finished therapy, deactivate them instead: their data stays and you can bring them back at any time.
Before you start
- You work in the web app. Only the org owner can delete a learner permanently; BCBAs can only deactivate.
- The learner must never have had a session, in any status. A scheduled, cancelled or no-show session also counts. A learner with sessions can only be deactivated.
- Open Learners and select the eye icon (View Details) on the learner's row. To find an inactive learner, tick Include inactive first.
Delete the learner
- Open the menu with the three dots at the top right of the learner's page (Actions).
- Select Delete Permanently, the red item at the bottom of the menu.
- The Delete Permanently window names the learner and warns that their treatment plans, goals, targets, rewards, documents and all related data go too. Read it, then select Delete. Cancel closes the window and changes nothing.
The message Learner permanently deleted appears and Learners opens without the learner.
If the learner has any session, the deletion is refused with the message Cannot delete patient with existing sessions. Deactivate instead., in English, and nothing is deleted. Such a learner can only be deactivated: see Deactivate or reactivate a learner.
What happens next
- The learner disappears at once for everyone: you, their BCBA, their aides and their parents. ABACare removes the rest of their data in the background shortly after.
- The learner no longer takes a place in your plan's learner limit.
- The accounts of the BCBA, aides and parents who worked with the learner stay as they are; only the learner is gone from their lists.
- Nobody is notified, and the app keeps no record of the deletion.
