Review data parents log at home
Read the home practice and behavior episodes parents log, mark each entry reviewed with feedback for the family, and add a new behavior a parent reported to the plan.
Parents log two kinds of data at home: practice on the targets you assigned for home practice, and behavior episodes with what happened before and after. When a behavior is not in the plan, they can describe it in their own words. You read these entries on the learner's page, mark each one reviewed, and can leave feedback that the parent reads in their history. A behavior a parent reported in their own words can be added to the plan.
Before you start
- You work in the web app. Open Learners, select the learner and open the Parent Data tab. The tab's badge shows how many entries wait for review.
- You review the learners assigned to you. Org owners can review any learner.
- Parents log practice only on goals you assigned for home practice: see Assign a goal for home practice.
- The Needs Attention list on your dashboard also lists learners with entries to review: see Work the Needs Attention list.
Read the entries
At the top of the tab, Pending Data, Pending ABC and Total Pending count the entries not reviewed yet. Below them, two tabs split the entries:
- Collected Data: home practice runs, each with the date and time, the target, its type and the result, for example 4/5 correct (80%) or 3 occurrences, plus the Activity Context and the parent's Notes.
- ABC Data: behavior episodes, with the behavior, its intensity and duration, the Antecedent, Behavior and Consequence, where it happened and the activity. A behavior the parent described in their own words is tagged Ad-hoc.
Both lists start with Show pending only ticked, newest first, 20 entries per page. Untick it to see reviewed entries too. Pick a start or end date to narrow the list; the list reloads at once.
Mark an entry reviewed
- On an entry tagged Pending Review, select Add Feedback if you want to write to the parent.
- Type your feedback. It is optional and can be up to 2000 characters; a longer text shows an error and stays in the box.
- Select Mark as Reviewed.
The message Data marked as reviewed appears, the entry leaves the pending list and the counts go down. With Show pending only unticked, the entry shows Reviewed, and your feedback under BCBA Feedback with the review date. A reviewed entry cannot be reviewed again or changed.
When you review the last entry of a page after the first, the list can show as empty. Change a filter or switch tabs to get back to the remaining entries.
Add a parent's behavior to the plan
When a parent reports a behavior the plan does not list, add it to the plan before you mark the entry reviewed. Once the entry is reviewed, the option is gone.
- On the ABC Data tab, find the entry tagged Ad-hoc and select Promote to Treatment Plan.
- Promote Ad-Hoc Behavior shows the behavior's name and description at the top, as the parent typed them. The name cannot be changed.
- Pick the plan under Treatment Plan. Only Active plans are listed; with none, the list is empty and you can only cancel.
- Adjust the Definition and add Antecedent Quickpicks and Consequence Quickpicks: type each one and press Enter. Add Notes if you need them.
- Select Promote to Treatment Plan.
The message Behavior promoted to treatment plan appears. The behavior is added to the plan as Active, without a category, and the entry loses its Ad-hoc tag. The entry is still pending: mark it reviewed as above. Promoting another entry with the same name adds a second behavior with that name, so check the plan first.
What happens next
- Parents see that the entry was reviewed, and your feedback, in their data history. On the web that covers home practice. In the mobile app it also covers behavior episodes. They are not notified: tell the family when feedback matters.
- A promoted behavior appears in the parent's behavior list at once, so they can log it by name next time. To configure it further, see Manage a plan's behaviors.
- Once everything is reviewed, the lists show No parent-collected data yet and No parent ABC data yet while Show pending only is ticked. Your reviewed entries are still there.
